15 Years?! A brief retrospective.
15 years is a long time. Long enough I had to use the Internet to flyspeck my pop culture memory.
Ke$ha and Flo Rida had the number one song in America. Watchmen topped the box office. Everyone was reading something from John Grisham or Jodi Picoult. TMZ was covering Kobe Bryant, Octomom and the ShamWow guy.
Every Sunday in March at 9pm EST the nation turned in to catch the latest from Donald J. Trump. On the 2nd season of the Celebrity Apprentice.
No one had ever met a tough nerd, a Democrat was Michigan’s speaker of the House (remember Andy Dillon?) and Detroit TV news was fascinated with tall tales about dead dancers and wild parties at the Manoogian Mansion. Kevin Dietz never did get to the bottom of that one.
Carly Buell was in the 5th grade.
Shoot, I hadn’t met my wife, I didn’t have any children, and I was doing a short stint working a communications job at the Attorney General’s office. *Shudder*
Lansing hadn’t yet heard of Resch Strategies. Then it did.
I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that in 2024 we’ve got the best team, the best approach, and the best results in the business. That doesn’t happen by accident. It takes a pretty special brand of leadership
15 years ago everyone in the Capitol City knew Matt Resch by name or reputation, but for the last decade-and-a-half they’ve gotten to know the professional, the expert and the sage. The confidant, the calm voice, and the cool demeanor. The business owner, the Chamber leader, and the community booster.
My front row experience has been even better. I was blessed to get a call from Matt in 2010 and I joined the firm immediately. (Norman Yatooma will have to catch Strawberry’s killer without me.) For nearly 15 years I’ve gotten to know the family man, the encourager, and the friend.
Lansing’s a little like a record player. It’s spinning round. We’ve got a Democratic governor again. We’ve got a Democratic Speaker of the House. Half the city tunes in every Sunday night to watch Donald Trump assure them he’s fighting with them. The other half worries they’re trapped here with him.
For 15 years, though, the best things never left. Hard work. Wisdom. Integrity. Compassion.
Family.
Cheers, Matt. Here’s to the next 15.
